Sunday 29th January

Today I found myself thinking that this is the second year that I am not preparing my classroom for children. Unlike last year though, I am happy about what I _am_ doing and I am sure that is an improvement.

Trevor and I both went to Midori's this afternoon; I got there about noon, just in time to join Midori and Andrew's sister, Lee, for lunch at the local Market in what were the Onkaparinga Woollen Mills when I lived there 45+ years ago.

After lunch we went back to the house (well, the garden, actually) and got to work.

Midori and another horticulture friend had worked on pruning and tying the cherries for a couple of hours in the morning, and then Lee and she finished it off with another couple of hours' work ... there must be about oh ... 20(?) cherry trees I reckon. They are being trained almost espaliere-like in rows, so it is a big job.

While they did that, I went on with weeding along the fence against which (some of) their other fruit trees are trained. I don't know how many nectarines I ate, but I allowed myself to eat _every_ one that fell from the tree and I was none too gentle with it as I pulled the weeds up from underneath it.

The garden is beautiful ... and very rewarding to be able to help with, but a lot of work.

At the end of the day Midori called us to see a young blue tongue lizard that is the first she has seen there, so that was a treat. With all the hay mulch spread around, it is well protected from predators and it has found itself around to the protected side of the house as well, so it is a promising start.

We haven't heard from Graeme, Harry and Mary so trust they have had a wonderful time at the beach. Similarly for Meg and Ben who went to the River Murray somewhere for a relaxing time.

Midori gave me a little IKEA puzzle of pieces of wood all precut, to make a tiny box of drawers ... two wide ones one above the other and above those two, three small ones in the third row across the top. I have just now oiled it ... it is gorgeous ... you would laugh Mandi, but I did get it together without bending any more than two little nails :P!

(I have yet to find that article that you mentioned Mandi ... but will keep looking.)

Right now I am going to have a shower and go to bed.
It's only 7:45pm but I am tired .. and will be up later on and might see you online if / when you are feeling up to it.

How did you driver reviver thing go Glenn?

I'm making a coffee here, so should make extras for you guys (and I found some TIM TAMS on the bench too ... hmmmm ... how long have they been there I wonder?).

The other thing I have been doing for Midori is to empty her pantry into MINE! She says I will have to tell Meg what's there or else she will get it all back when she comes back to live!! She probably isn't wrong.

As I wind down for the day I am thinking of you too belinda and this business of being sociable at times when it doesn't feel comfortable. I have never been able to convince people that I find crowdy get-togethers tough ... the kids all understand ... which is great but too many others presume to tell me to get into it, and instruct me to enjoy it!!!

Sometimes of course, I DO, so I guess I am just contrary ... I hope your day went well ... and it was one of those that you enjoyed too.

Now to bed ... I do NOT intend this to be a replacement for emails .. it is not "personal" somehow ... so we will see.
